Shane Acker and the boys have produced a really fantastic film called “9” . The movie you see below, also called “9” is a shorter version of it, which actually came out first.

Tim Burton has always been known for producing incredibly different looking movies and this is no exception. Although it is a computer graphics movie it has a really “hauntingly beautiful” feel to it and is actually a stop motion movie.

The screen play was written in part by some of the team that wrote “Corpse Bride” also directed by Tim Burton and will go down as one of the classic animation movies of recent. The film has incredible imagination and you cannot help but fall in love with the characters and at the end there is a really nice little twist to make you happy again.

So what is Shane Acker’s “9” all about then?

Well in a few sentences here I go…

The world is threatened by machines (sound familiar?). The machines, which were actually built in order to help the world recover from a previous war, have gone on the rampage and started a rebellion. Their goal is to wipe out humanity. So the scientists that produced the machines come up with the “rag doll” also known as “stitch punks” to help with the problem.

9 takes place in a world parallel to our own, in which the very legacy of humanity is threatened by machines. The machines, built by a scientist to help the world recover from a previous war, rebelled and began to manufacture an army to wipe out humanity. So the same scientist creates a group of sapient rag dolls. These rag dolls, or “stitch punks” as Shane Acker calls them, live a post-apocalyptic existence and one day they find 9, one of their own.

It is reported that Christopher Plummer will play the part of “1” and will be the leader while Elijah Wood will be “9”. “9” is a good character who is always willing to help and serve others and willing to risk his own life in order to do so.

Other characters to be in the film are John C. Reilly as “5” and will play the part of a mechanic while Jennifer Connelly will be “7” and she is a rebel, loner, warrior and of course beautiful!

Crispin Glover will be the visionary of the team and will be “6” and Martin Landau will be “2” as an old inventor and “8” will be a huge bodyguard played by Fred Tatasciore.

While the plot of this film is nothing new – machines taking over the world and a single savior coming to rescue and save it, the style in which it has been made is new. This really is a wonderful and incredible piece of work by Tim Burton, Timur Bekmambetov and Shane Acker.
