    Burton – Frankeweenie
was a film I saw so many years ago and I have not seen it since and finally came across it today and I had to put it here. It is one of my all time favorite films.

Burton – Frankenweenie is a short film made in 1984 and is directed by the ever-famous Tim Burton. It is a direct parody of the 1931 Frankenstein and I am glad to report that there is a re-make being made at the moment which should be released in November 2011 and guess who will be going to see it!

    Me!

The film which was co-written by Leonard Ripps (who was also involved in Me and The Boys) is taken from Mary Shelley’s story of Frankenstein. Personally I think that this is a much better version of it. I love what Burton has done to this movie.

The movie’s main characters are Victor and Sparky. Victor likes to make movies of his dog, but one day the dog get run over by a car. Victor has been learning about the effect of electricity on muscles at school and builds an incredible machine to bring his dog back to life.

The neighbors don’t like the new Sparky (he is a bit different!) and Sparky runs away. Later in the movie he becomes the hero…

And then he falls in love with a beautiful poodle. How romantic.

I think Burton – Frankenweenie is incredible, but Disney didn’t hold the same opinion and actually fired Tim Burton for wasting the companies money making a film that they thought was too scary for kids!

I think they must have kicked themselves as they signed a deal with Tim Burton to make the remake in 2011. John August has been hired to write the new script. I can’t wait to see the new Burton Frankenweenie.
